Job Description

Aspen Public Radio is hiring a Climate Desk Reporter to cover climate and environmental issues in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys. Responsibilities include producing news content, anchoring newscasts, and cultivating sources. Candidates should have experience in radio reporting and excellent writing skills. This full-time position offers a salary of $65,000, health insurance, and paid vacation. The role is based in Aspen, CO, and is not remote.
Overview: Aspen Public Radio is seeking a talented and dedicated broadcast journalist to join our team as the inaugural Climate Desk Reporter. As a key member of our news team, you will be responsible for covering critical climate and environmental issues in our coverage area, including the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys. Responsibilities:
• Produce high-quality, accurate, and ethical reporting on climate and environmental issues
• Write and produce daily spot news and weekly features and interviews
• Cultivate a pool of sources throughout the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys
• Produce digital content for our website and social media channels
• Anchor morning and afternoon newscasts, as needed
• Serve as local show producer for Morning Edition and All Things Considered
• Participate in the production of live events
• Maintain and cultivate relationships with people and organizations pertaining to your beat
• Work with the news director and regional NPR editors to nationalize local stories
• Participate in training and workshops to continue honing your craft and skills
• Attend donor and station events and participate in on-air fundraising drives
• *Qualifications:**
• Solid experience in radio reporting, audio editing and production, and on-air anchoring
• Deep knowledge of the ethics and practices of journalism, including AP and NPR styles
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines on a regular basis
• Well-practiced collaboration skills
• Prior climate reporting experience, environmental studies, and understanding of the purpose and mission of public broadcasting are preferred
