Job Description
The Hourly Fisheries Technician I at Missouri Department of Conservation supports hatchery and aquaculture operations, ensuring aquatic life health. Summary/Objective
Support general hatchery and aquaculture operations to maintain a healthy hatchery and fisheries programs, ensuring the well-being of aquatic life.
Essential Job Duties
• Monitor and ensure adequate aquaculture health, fish production, care, transport, and distribution to meet program requirements.
• Follow assigned processes to remain compliant with policies and regulations, promoting sustainability and safety.
• Assist with grounds maintenance, including cleaning, pond treatments, mowing, maintaining flowerbeds, and other tasks to ensure a clean and safe environment.
• Conduct hatchery tours and presentations to school and/or public groups, educating them about aquatic life and conservation.
• Maintain accurate inventory of items and equipment, tracking usage and needs.
• Perform general administrative functions, such as answering phones, maintaining publications, research, purchasing supplies, and other tasks to support daily operations.
Ancillary Job Duties
• Complete other duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One (1) year of related professional experience in aquaculture or a related field.
• Valid, current driver's license and Commercial Driver's License required.
• Pesticide Applicator's License required.
• Able to pass an approved boating safety course and obtain a Missouri Boating Safety Certification Card within 6 months of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to operate boats, outboard motors, land maintenance equipment, power tools, and large trucks pulling trailers.
• Proficient in office equipment, such as computers, calculators, cameras, scanners, and printers.
• Accurate record-keeping and data entry skills.
• Basic carpentry, mechanical, and plumbing skills.
• Experience with fishery science and wildlife management.
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
• Able to travel and work varying shifts, as required.
Work Environment
• Regularly work in outdoor temperatures, including wet, hot, and/or cold environments.
• Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.
Physical Abilities
• Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
• Operate tools and machinery, relocating as needed.
• Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
• Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
• Lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds correctly.
• Concentrated attention is required at all times.
• Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

This position has been determined to be Nonexempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.
