Squadron Energy is seeking a Head of Integrated Commercial Operations in Sydney, Australia. The role involves designing and implementing processes for optimizing the operations of renewable energy assets. The Role

Reporting to the Executive General Manager Customer and Energy Markets, the Head of Integrated Commercial Operations will be tasked with designing, developing, and implementing the essential processes, systems, and resources required for the integrated operations of SQE’s assets.

It will be crucial to ensure that asset operations (electricity, gas and other) are optimized over the long, medium, and short term, effectively responding to market conditions and delivering risk-adjusted optimal returns.

This role is all about 24/7 energy asset monitoring, dynamically managing output based on wholesale energy prices and plant conditions. It's a crucial link with Operations, ensuring seamless and efficient performance.

Key responsibilities:
• Integrate market trading aspects with operational functions to optimize revenue while minimizing risk.
• Lead and mentor a team of Spot Traders, ensuring the smooth running of 24/7 operations, including designing and maintaining rosters.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive spot trading strategy aligned with the company’s overall business objectives and market conditions.
• Monitor market trends, pricing dynamics, and regulatory developments to identify trading opportunities.
• Mitigate risk and ensure compliance with risk limits, trading control procedures, and regulations.
• Collaborate closely with the Trading, Portfolio Management, and Risk teams to align asset operations with broader commercial strategies.
• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including market participants, regulatory bodies and industry associations.
• Drive operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technology, automation, and data analytics.

About you

You will have:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Energy Management, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in energy markets, trading rooms or control rooms ideally within the renewable energy or utilities sector.
• Experience in setting up a control environment (preferably electricity or gas) and managing staff on a roster.
• Deep Energy Markets and related systems knowledge. NGR and NEL compliance experience.
• Experience managing assets and building relationships with operational staff.
• Knowledge of hedging strategies and risk mitigation in volatile energy markets.
• Familiarity with renewable technologies (solar, wind, storage) and their integration into energy markets.
• Advanced proficiency in analytical tools and platforms (e.g., Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Tableau).
• Strong skills in financial modelling, forecasting, and scenario analysis for energy portfolios.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting complex data to diverse stakeholders.
