Job Description

Phlair is seeking a Head of Finance for Project Finance & Investment Strategy in Munich. The role involves developing financing solutions for large-scale Direct Air Capture projects, securing funding, and building advanced financial models. Candidates should have a relevant degree, experience in project finance, and strong connections in debt financing. The position offers an attractive compensation package and benefits, but it is not a remote job.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Phlair unleashes CO2's potential through breakthrough innovation. We rapidly deploy Direct Air Capture technology, facilitating the removal and reuse of CO2 at scale.

For decades, fossil fuels served as the backbone and feedstock of our economy – with the downside of polluting our atmosphere. We invert this equation by developing a cost-efficient and scalable electrochemical Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. We have cracked the nut here by developing a breakthrough hydrolizer for acid/base regeneration, allowing us to capture CO2 from ambient air for either permanent storage or as a precursor for CO2-negative chemicals. For this, we collaborate with leading customers like Frontier Climate, Stripe, Shopify and Klarna.

We are looking for highly ambitious and motivated individuals who are ready to work their a** off to have a lasting impact on the planet. Your ideas will set the foundation and shape the future of our company.

YOUR MISSION AT PHLAIR

As Head of Project Finance, you'll spearhead the financial strategies that drive our large-scale DAC projects. Collaborating closely with our CEO, Malte, you'll secure project-level funding through debt and other non-dilutive instruments, ensuring the successful deployment of our technology.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage financing solutions for large-scale projects, including debt, grants, and alternative funding mechanisms.
• Leverage your network in debt financing, focusing on lenders and institutions experienced in supporting innovative, high-risk technologies.
• Secure funding from banks, institutional investors, and development finance institutions.
• Build and maintain advanced project finance models to evaluate investment opportunities, assess risks, and optimize project returns.
• Stay ahead of emerging trends in renewable project finance and create innovative approaches to securing funding.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• You have a M.Sc. or related in Finance, Business Administration, or in any STEM field
• Proven experience in project finance, capital markets, or renewable infrastructure financing, with a track record of closing large-scale project transactions.
• Strong connections in debt financing, especially with stakeholders willing to support projects involving innovative, high-risk technologies.
• Advanced financial modeling and Excel proficiency, with expertise in structuring and evaluating complex financial models.
• Fluency in English, with the ability to convey complex financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences. German is a plus.
• Hands-on, entrepreneurial approach with a drive to maximize value, optimize costs, and execute financing strategies efficiently.

GREAT TO HAVE, BUT OPTIONAL

• Understanding of electrolyzers, DAC technologies, or other advanced renewable energy systems
• Proficiency in technical, financial, and legal jargon, capable of managing multiple interests

WHAT WE OFFER YOU

• Attractive compensation package, including stock options in the company
• Minimum of 30 days of vacation per year, which includes 2 days of recreational leave
• Financial support with your move to Munich
• Free public transportation ticket for all of Germany
• A fitness subscription to EGYM Wellpass, so you can clear your head in your time out of the office
• Free team lunch every Thursday with our amazing chef

At Phlair, we thrive on diversity and inclusion, believing that unique perspectives drive innovation. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, experiences, and identities, and strive to create a space where everyone can contribute, grow, and succeed.
