Job Description
A DAY IN A LIFE:
PRT is currently recruiting for a full time Grower 2 position to assist with the many different aspects of nursery responsibilities at PRT Quesnel in Quesnel BC. The person in the Grower 2 position assists with the production of quality forest seedling crops by applying effective forest nursery practices and principles. This position provides an opportunity to operationally assist, co-ordinate and train forest nursery workers in required nursery work activities. This engaging, high paced, physical position offers a safe work environment and an opportunity for a career that will make a positive change in the world. Candidates should have a desire and keenness to learn about the seed orchard activities, work independently and efficiently. Regular work hours are 40 hours per week with varying shift times by grow season, weekend work and shift work are required. No experience required; full training will be provided. Successful applicants will be required to complete in house online training and obtain a pesticide applicator certificate. Candidates may be interviewed and tested to assess their skill, ability, competence, and efficiency for this position.
Key accountabilities of the Grower 2 are:
• Assist with the nursery’s cultural program by:
• Monitoring sowing practices
• Implementing water, fertilization and greenhouse cultural program
• Making insect and disease inspections and implementing methods of control
• Monitoring the growth of seedlings
• Monitoring stock in cold storage
• Assist with crop inventories
• Keep neat and accurate records including computerized record keeping systems
• Operate computerized and other control systems
• Assist with nursery research trials
• Follow a company directed Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program for pesticide application
• Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
• Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

ABOUT THE TEAM:
The person filling the Grower 2 position will work alongside other nursery workers under the supervision of the Nursery Lead and report to the Nursery Manager. This position is situated in the breathtaking Pacific Northwest. This beautiful location offers activities and magnificent scenery all year long!
Qualifications
ENOUGH ABOUT US, LET’S TALK ABOUT YOU:
Required/ Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
• Diploma in Horticulture, forestry, or related field
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
• Knowledge of greenhouse equipment and climate control systems
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to work independently
• Strong and professional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
• Great organizational and record keeping skills
• Ability to provide basic maintenance of facilities and equipment
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
• Pesticide Applicator Certificate
• Relevant forest seedling nursery experience
