Grow Ohio Valley increases the availability of local produce by growing food on four urban farm sites, including a greenhouse, two high tunnels, an apple orchard, and a large urban garden. We operate a year-round farmer's market and grocery store to provide local producers with a reliable sales outlet. We coordinate a Summer CSA program; sourcing local produce from multiple farms and distributing well-rounded produce boxes to consumers. We help around 30 participants each year create gardens in their homes to teach and help community members grow their own food. Our mission is to empower community members to make food choices that are beneficial for their physical health and the health of the local food economy. Member Duties : Urban Farm AmeriCorps members will serve on four urban farm sites growing fruits and vegetables. They will be seeding, planting, maintaining, harvesting, processing, and distributing locally grown produce. Members will maintain urban farm sites to provide the community with valuable outdoor spaces. Members will provide education to promote the advancement of nutrition and agricultural education.
