About the position

The Green Representative position at the State University of New York, Cortland, is designed to promote sustainability initiatives among the student body. This role is pivotal in increasing student engagement and fostering a community focused on sustainable practices. The Green Representative will be responsible for planning and executing programming events that center around sustainability topics, thereby enhancing environmental behaviors on campus. This includes creating posters and displays in residence halls and utilizing various communication platforms such as social media and newsletters to disseminate information about sustainability efforts. The position requires participation in biweekly Green Representative meetings and a commitment of approximately 10 hours per week. This time will be divided between attending group and committee meetings, as well as working independently or in smaller groups. Each Green Representative is expected to hold a minimum of two environmentally focused programs per semester and assist with larger campus-wide sustainability events sponsored by the Green Representatives. Additionally, representatives can self-select to join various sub-committees focused on different aspects of sustainability, including campus-wide events, communications, and operations. Training sessions are also a requirement, with a minimum of two sessions per semester, plus an initial training for new representatives. This role is an excellent opportunity for students to engage with sustainability efforts on campus, develop leadership skills, and contribute to a greener future while working closely with peers and faculty in the Sustainability Office located in Cornish Hall, Room 1314.

Responsibilities
• Promote campus sustainability amongst the student body
,
• Increase student engagement and community building related to sustainability and sustainable practices
,
• Increase environmental behaviors on campus
,
• Plan and run programming events centered around sustainability and sustainable actions/topics
,
• Create posters/displays in residence halls and other communication platforms (i.e. social media, newsletter, etc.)
,
• Attend biweekly Green Rep meetings
,
• Work 10 hours a week, including attending group/committee meetings and working independently or in smaller groups
,
• Hold environmentally focused programs (minimum of 2 per semester)
,
• Assist with larger campus-wide Green Rep sponsored Sustainability Event
,
• Self-select to be part of a Green Rep Sustainability Sub-Committees (Campus-Wide Events, Communications, Operations)
,
• Attend training sessions (minimum of 2 per semester, plus additional initial training for new Green Reps)

Requirements
• Must be a SUNY Cortland student when applying, hired, and working
,
• Must have completed at least one semester at SUNY Cortland by the start date

• Effective communication skills

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively

• Ability to see projects through to completion

• Ability to learn information about environmental topics and relate information to peers
