Envision Energy is seeking a Sr. MEA Development Engineer for its H2 Center of Excellence in Burlington, VT. The role involves designing and testing innovative water electrolyzer systems to produce green hydrogen, focusing on performance and durability of MEA components. Candidates should have a Ph.D. or M.S. in relevant fields with experience in PEM fuel cells, large-scale MEA manufacturing, and electrochemical testing. Competitive benefits are offered.

Green hydrogen plays an essential role towards our net-zero mission. Hydrogen has widespread industrial and transport applications. Conventional hydrogen production from fossil fuels is accompanied by the release of large quantities of carbon dioxide. Our innovative technologies take renewable energy and water to produce green hydrogen with zero emission. We aspire to improve efficiency, reduce the cost, and scale the manufacturing to meet booming green hydrogen market.
We are therefore seeking a talented and highly motivated Sr. MEA Development Engineer to join our newly launched H2 Center of Excellence (COE) near Boston, MA. You will be a champ for test stand design, procurement and electrochemical testing for our innovative water electrolyzer systems. We will work together to create groundbreaking solutions to transform our technologies for low-cost green H2 production.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Benchmark MEA performance, durability and cost working closely with collaborators from industry and academia
• Brainstorm innovative solutions for MEA design and optimization towards performance and durability improvement
• Lead as a cell engineering champ to investigate the interactions between MEA and other components.
• Pinpoint underlying MEA mechanical and chemical degradation mechanisms and bring up mitigating solutions to upgrading the MEA lifetime
• Scale up MEA production from lab scale to full scale using industry processes (roll-to-roll coating, sputtering, and tape-casting)
• Interface with stack development engineer towards MEA integration
• Interface with quality engineer to ensure the MEA quality compliance
• Interact material scientists for MEA composition and microstructural characterization
• Work cohesively with chemists for new catalyst and membrane development
• Supervise and train junior engineers/scientists in MEA fabrication and analysis
• Collaborate with testing engineers for MEA testing and rigorous data analysis
• Delegate the corporation to interact with vendors, customers, and other stakeholders
Qualifications:
• Ph.
D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science with 3 years of related experience or M.S. with at least 5 years of experience
• Strong experience in low and intermediate temperature PEM fuel cells and electrolyzers
• Hands-on experience in large-scale MEA manufacturing
• Knowledgeable about catalyst, membrane, ionomer, gas diffusion layer, and other components
• Good experience in electrochemical tests (i.e. cyclic voltammetry, impedance, fuel cell, electrolyzer)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be a fast learner and proactive performer
• Must be an innovator with bottom-up ideas

Salary:
$130K to $150K, dependent on the appropriate experiences.
Candidates should expect up to 15% international travel.
