Job Description
The Australian Government is hiring a Governance Officer for the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water in Larrakeyah NT. This permanent position involves providing secretariat services to committees, managing policy and governance processes, and preparing briefing materials. Candidates should have experience in policy and governance, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage with stakeholders. The role contributes to environmental protection in the Alligator Rivers Region.
• APS 6 - $95,438 - $108,360 per annum plus superannuation

Who we are
The Supervising Scientist Branch (SSB) ensures the protection of the Alligator Rivers Region, including Kakadu National Park, and the local communities from the effects of uranium mining by undertaking environmental research and monitoring, participating in and overseeing the regulatory process and developing standards and practices for environmental protection.
The Science Facilitation Team provides high quality business, operational and governance support to the Office of the Supervising Scientist. This includes providing secretariate and coordination support to the Alligator Rivers Region Technical Committee and the Alligator Rivers Region Advisory Committee as well as maintaining the OSS intra and internet presence.

The job
• Provision of secretariat services to the Alligator Rivers Region Technical Committee and the Alligator Rivers Region Advisory Committee, including meeting coordination and committee governance arrangements, ensuring all statutory requirements and obligations are met
• Managing the OSS policy and governance processes
• Coordinating Departmental information requests and activities
• Assisting with the preparation of high-quality briefing material including Ministerial submissions and Senate estimates briefs, and undertake other high level policy and coordination tasks as required
• Maintaining the OSS intranet and internet pages
• Providing assistance with wider section tasks including communications, planning and reporting arrangements

What we are looking for
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate the following:
• Demonstrated policy, governance and secretariat skills and experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders on complex issues.
• An understanding of whole of government, departmental, ministerial and parliamentary processes and governance requirements is desirable.
• Previous experience in a similar role within Commonwealth or State government is desirable. Skills and capabilities
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with a high level of attention to detail, including excellent written ability for the production of clear and concise reports, and provision of information and advice to external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders and staff members, and to work effectively in a team.
• High level organisational, research and analysis skills and the ability to provide high quality advice to staff, committee members, senior executives and Ministers.
• An ability to work under limited direction and manage multiple competing priorities.
Eligibility and other requirements
Citizenship - to be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
Security Clearance - this position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Pre-employment checks - your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period.
