Job Description

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is hiring a Geothermal Energy Researcher in Fairbanks, AK. The role involves research and development of geothermal heat pump systems and thermal energy networks, including numerical modeling and laboratory experiments. Job Summary
NREL seeks a talented Geothermal Energy Researcher to join our Applied Research for Communities in Extreme Environments team within the Mechanical, and Thermal Energy Sciences (MTES) directorate. As a key member of this team, you will contribute to research, development, and evaluation of heat and mass transfer components and systems.

About the Role
The successful candidate will support efforts related to analysis & design, technical assistance, and R&D of geothermal heat pump systems and district thermal energy network systems. This includes improving, developing, and using first-principles numerical modeling tools of heat and mass exchangers and other thermal components and systems for building envelopes and HVAC systems such as heat pumps.

Responsibilities
• Perform laboratory experiments on materials and fluid/thermal components at NREL's laboratories
• Develop and deploy instrumentation and data collection plans
• Support efforts related to analysis & design, technical assistance, and R&D of geothermal heat pump systems and district thermal energy network systems

Requirements
• Relevant PhD or relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience
• Demonstrates broad understanding and wide application of engineering technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field
• Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities
