About Central Land Council (CLC)
The Central Land Council (CLC) is a statutory body established under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. For over 45 years, CLC has been advocating for, protecting, and advancing the rights of Aboriginal people in Central Australia. With an elected 90-member Aboriginal Council, the CLC is deeply committed to delivering geospatial solutions to support land rights, native title claims, and land management projects across the region.
We now have an exciting opportunity for a Geospatial Services Officer to join our team and contribute to meaningful projects that make a lasting impact on Aboriginal communities.
About the Opportunity
The CLC is seeking a Geospatial Services Specialist based in Alice Springs, NT. Reporting to the Geospatial Services Team Leader, this role involves leading cartographic production, managing mapping requests, and supporting GIS-related projects that aid Aboriginal land management.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Producing maps and providing spatial analytics for internal clients (Anthropologists, Rangers, and Lawyers)
• Overseeing the mapping request queue and collaborating with the Geospatial Services Officer
• Supporting the development and maintenance of spatial data and GIS applications
• Monitoring GIS deployment and ensuring compliance with CLC standards
• Delivering GIS training to staff, including field tablet and GPS usage
• Engaging with Aboriginal communities to enhance geospatial capabilities and understanding
• Participating in occasional fieldwork to support land management initiatives
• Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including Aboriginal land rights and native title legislation
About You
To qualify, you will ideally have relevant qualifications in GIS, cartography, or a related field and demonstrated experience in map production and geospatial data management. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a similar role is preferred. However, we are open to considering recent graduates that have a strong interest in Aboriginal land rights.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
• Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS Pro and the ESRI suite (QGIS Experience considered)
• Knowledge of spatial data formats and geospatial software platforms
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and autonomously
• Experience with GIS application development and data management
• Commitment to supporting Aboriginal land rights and community engagement
You will also need:
• A current Australian driver’s licence (manual preferred)
• The ability to operate 4WD vehicles in remote areas (CLC provides training)
• The capacity to undertake occasional remote fieldwork, including long-distance travel and camping
• An Ochre Card (or willingness to obtain one) and ability to pass a National Police Check

About the Benefits
For your dedication and contribution, you will receive a competitive salary from $80,622 up to $100,027 based on skills and experience, plus a range of excellent benefits including:
