Job Description
Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Geoscientist to contribute to energy and environmental research, focusing on areas like geothermal systems and carbon capture. Responsibilities include data analysis, project management, mentoring, and collaboration with various stakeholders. A PhD in a relevant field is required. Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Geoscientist to work on our team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls, Idaho facility with every other Friday off.
Responsibilities Include:
• Contribute to energy and environment research particularly in the areas of the energy-water nexus; geothermal
systems and energy; carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration; and subsurface hydrogen storage and
retrieval.
• Apply scientific research principles in data collection, computer modeling, and systems analysis to deliver
program results and meet program milestones.
• Perform basic calculations to analyze and evaluate geological properties associated with the movement, heat
transfer, water transport, and solid mechanics of geological systems.
• Identify, collect, and analyze data from laboratory experiments, field experiments, and numerical models.
• Provide solutions to technical problems and recommendations for improvements in research practices and
contribute to the development of new concepts and techniques.
• Extract and compile technical data and documentation, and contribute to technical reports, publications, and
presentations at national technical meetings and project reviews with program sponsors.
• Define and execute project activities, including effective project closeout. Ensure work scope is executed safely
and securely and within budget and schedule. Some travel and off-hour support may be necessary, dictated by
customer needs and set milestones.
• Contribute to the development of program plans. Identify concepts for new business and assist in their
development. Interface with existing customers to maintain the existing business base.
• Support management and program leadership in meeting DOE/industry expectations, milestones, and
deliverables, and INL internal reporting metrics.
• Interface and develop relations with other labs, academia, and industry related to area of expertise.
• Build effective multidisciplinary teams across technical disciplines. Lead and/or contribute to proposal
development teams consisting of internal and external collaborators.
• Mentor junior staff, post-doctoral staff, interns, and subcontractors with an emphasis on developing the next
generation of laboratory staff.
• Lead by example, promote a culture of excellence in safety, environmental compliance, and security. Proactively
identify training requirements and stay current in training.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
• PhD in Engineering, Geosciences, Mathematics or comparable disciplines.
• Must be able to demonstrate a strong foundation in modeling and simulation.
• Proven track record of research and publication in relevant areas.
• Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English.
Job Information:
• The pay range for this position is $77,628 min - $159,228 max. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
