SwitchON Foundation is seeking a General Manager – Sustainable Agriculture in Kolkata, India, with a minimum of 10 years of experience. The role involves leading the technical vision for sustainable agriculture programs, integrating innovative practices, and collaborating with stakeholders. Responsibilities include technical oversight, capacity building, research, and resource mobilization. Candidates should have a Master's or PhD in relevant fields and proficiency in Hindi and English.

Position Summary
The GM – Sustainable Agriculture will lead the technical vision and innovation strategy for all sustainable agriculture programs and projects. The CTO will ensure the integration of cutting-edge agricultural practices and technologies that align with climate resilience, soil and water conservation, regenerative practices, and smallholder farmer empowerment. The role demands strong technical expertise, cross-sector collaboration, and a focus on scalable, impact-driven outcomes.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Strategy & Innovation
• Lead the technical design and innovation strategy for sustainable agriculture initiatives.
• * Develop and promote climate-smart, regenerative, and resource-efficient farming practices.
• * Guide the integration of emerging technologies such as remote sensing, IoT, and GIS in agriculture.
• Program Technical Oversight
• Provide technical direction for project design, implementation, and monitoring.
• * Ensure the adoption of sustainable agriculture models based on scientific principles and field evidence.
• * Facilitate internal technical reviews, assessments, and troubleshooting.
• Capacity Building & Knowledge Management
• Design and implement training programs for field teams and partners.
• * Establish robust knowledge-sharing systems, manuals, and toolkits for effective field deployment.
• * Mentor and guide subject matter experts, agronomists, and technical staff.
• Research, Data & Innovation
• Lead evidence-based research and pilot innovative models in collaboration with academic institutions.
• * Monitor trends and technical developments in the agriculture domain and integrate learnings into programs.
• * Drive data collection, analysis, and application of M&E tools to inform decision-making.
• Stakeholder & Government Engagement
• Act as the technical spokesperson in forums, technical panels, and with government stakeholders.
• * Build technical collaborations with agricultural universities, research institutions, and think tanks.
• * Support advocacy efforts by providing technical inputs to influence policy and practice.
• Resource Mobilization & Proposal Development
• Support fundraising efforts by contributing technical content for proposals and presentations.
• * Engage with donors and partners on technical feasibility, scalability, and impact assurance of projects.
• Qualifications, Experience & Skills
• Education: Master’s or PhD in Agriculture Science, Agronomy, Soil Science, or a related field. Specialization in sustainable or regenerative agriculture is highly desirable.
• * Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience in technical leadership roles in agriculture, preferably with NGOs, research bodies, or multilateral institutions.
• * Skills:
• * Deep knowledge of sustainable, organic, and climate-resilient agriculture.
• * Experience in program design, implementation, and technical monitoring.
• * Familiarity with agri-tech, digital tools, and innovations in farming systems.
• * Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
• * Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
• * Proven track record in influencing agricultural policy and practice.
• Reporting Structure
Reports to the Executive Director in Kolkata, with 10–15 technical and field professionals reporting to this position.
Travel Requirements
Extensive travel within India—particularly to Eastern, Western, and North-Eastern states—is required for field support, technical oversight, and partnership development.
Compensation
Annual CTC: ₹8 to 10 Lakhs
(The compensation package will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and current salary.)
