Dominion Energy is hiring a Gas Operations Technician I in McBee, SC. This entry-level role involves working under a senior technician on the maintenance, operation, and construction of natural gas systems. Responsibilities include responding to pipeline issues, conducting leak surveys, and performing valve maintenance. Candidates must be available for emergencies, work outdoors, and complete a four-year Gas Apprentice Training Program. The position starts in September 2025.

Job Summary

The Gas Operations Technician I position is an entry level position responsible for working with the Gas Operations Technician III level position on the operation, maintenance, and construction of Dominion Energy South Carolina’s natural gas system. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Responding to pipeline damages, repairs and replacements to below-ground gas pipelines and fittings
• Working in conditions where natural gas is present
• Responding to customer calls/concerns, completing customer meter orders (blocking, unblocking, pulling meters for testing, painting meters, conducting zero use and high bill complaint investigations)
• Performing above ground leak repairs
• Performing underground line locating
• Conducting leak survey and atmospheric corrosion surveys
• Performing valve maintenance work
• Conducting odorant checks.

In addition to working with Gas Operations Technician III, Gas Operations Technician I will go through the Gas Apprentice Training Program, a four-year program involving training courses and Operational Qualifications (OQ) which includes electronic testing and hands-on testing. Continuous advancement and OQ in the training program are required. The successful candidate should be driven towards graduating from the program and the Gas Operations Technician career.

This position will start in September 2025. If you are hired for this positon, you will be traveling to our Gas Training Center in Cayce, SC for the first four days of your employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
• Must be routinely available for call out or emergency situations and be able to work overtime
• Must live within the service territory of the assigned work locations
• Must have the ability to read and apply applicable procedures and document compliance activities
• Must be able to wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in hazardous environments
• Must be able to work in trenches and excavations with mud and water, cutting or joining pipe both inside and outside, using a jackhammer and other heavy equipment to excavate sites for street construction, continuous standing, sitting, or walking, climbing ladders, crawling under houses and in attics, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and/or driving 6 to 8 hours daily
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day and occasionally will lift up to 100 pounds
• Must have the ability to work well with diverse teams and customers, good communication skills, time management & organizational skills, problem-solving skills, ability to adapt to quickly changing demands, schedules, and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience and knowledge with natural gas pipeline construction, operations, maintenance, repairs, or hot tapping & stopping operations, experience working in underground utility construction or maintenance, experience with underground line locating and Commercial Driver’s License (Class A) obtained.

Education Requirements
• High school diploma ir equivalent and 0-2 years' work experience, or
• Military Service Members/Veterans ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3 and 2+ years' of work experienc

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Must have a good driving record and be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (Class A) within 6 months of start date.

Subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing with satisfactory results subject to DOT and company requirements. Comply with OSHA annual audiometric testing requirements. Will require frequent bending, climbing, twisting, balancing and reaching.
