Summary Description:
Under supervision, coordinates and facilitates the outdoor environmental education experiences for Pre-K through 12 students in assigned schools, and as a teacher, creates and teaches objective based environmental lessons. Physical Demands: As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. You must be prepared daily to be physically active and outside in all types of weather, for example hiking up to 5 miles a day. Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by MCEA contract. Evening and overnight (with stipend) work required.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the educational process; extensive knowledge of MCPS curriculum, instruction, and assessments; ability to work effectively with students and collaboratively with teachers. Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, and MCPS curriculum and policies. Commitment to the belief that all students can learn characterized by high content and high expectations for all learners. Ability to use a variety of instructional and behavioral management strategies appropriate to the needs of middle school adolescents. Excellent planning, organization, management, communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).

Education Training Experience:
Bachelor^s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university with knowledge of adolescent learner. A minimum of three years teaching experience and experience as a lead teacher. Completion of MCPS CPD Courses EE-02, Teaching Techniques for Outdoor Education; EE-07 Using Environmental Issues as a Context for Learning; EE-06, Confidence Course Instructors Workshop, preferred.Certificate License:Meets Maryland state certification requirements in an appropriate field of education. Certification in earth science or environmental science is preferred.
