Job Summary
The duty of a Freight Delivery Driver involves ensuring prompt delivery of goods from Dollar General Distribution Centers, stores, and suppliers. This position mandates the safe operation of a tractor-trailer, accurate loading and unloading of cargo, and delivering top-notch customer service. Compliance with state and federal laws is essential for drivers as they prioritize safety and effectiveness while driving.
Responsibilities
Primary Duties:
• Transport merchandise between locations, handle return shipments, and manage reverse logistics following all safety protocols, operational efficiency, and on-time delivery, in compliance with company guidelines and government rules.
• Unload and reload cargo and rolltainers at every retail outlet.
• Ensure that all cargo and rolltainers are properly secured before closing the trailer.
• Ensure all necessary documentation is filled out and keep precise files up to date.
• Deliver top-quality customer service to store teams, vendors, and distribution center staff.
• Adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to maintain regulatory compliance.
• Conduct inspections on designated vehicles before and after trips.
Physical Requirements:
• Capability to maneuver and transport rolltainers with weights ranging from 600 to 1,200 lbs.
• Regularly bending, stooping, and extending to manage cargo.
• - Capable of lifting and transporting cargo weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Operating the levers of the fifth wheel manually, adjusting the tandem pins, and ensuring proper connection with the trailer.
• Capability to operate in challenging weather situations such as high temperatures, low temperatures, and chilled settings.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
• Completion of high school or equivalent education is preferred for this position.
• Possessing an official Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• At least half a year of prior experience operating tractor-trailer vehicles is required.
• Understanding DOT regulations and FMCSA safety standards is essential.
• Compliance with all regulations established by the Department of Transportation pertaining to medical evaluations, safety protocols, and drug or alcohol screenings is mandatory.
Skills & Abilities:
• Capacity to accommodate a variable timetable, which may entail working evenings and weekends.
• Proficient in overnight journeys and prolonged absences from residence.
• Emphasizing safety protocols and meticulous attention to detail.
• Proficient communication and customer service abilities are crucial for success in interacting with clients.
