By joining the Division of Forestry/Forest Management Branch/FIA & Urban Section as a Forester I in Taylor County, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to ensuring the integrity of the division's ongoing forest inventory and analysis, and the consistent delivery of services to the public. During the performance of your assigned duties, you may interact on a daily or weekly basis with not only the public, but with branch personnel, branch management, and the division's program staff.

Holders of the Forester I (FIA) position will complete tasks such as:
• Performing professional forester duties necessary to complete an inventory of Kentucky's forestlands
• Following US Forest Service data collection procedures for evaluating forest stand size, composition, and condition; overall forest health; and potential forest threats
• Performing administrative duties to process collected data including weekly plot data downloads, and US Forest Service accomplishment reports
• Participating in Wildland Fire Management and related activities

Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of forest management
• Ability to plan and direct forest management activities
• Ability to work independently
• Effective communication, organization, and documentation skills
• Proficient knowledge and use of information technology

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in forestry.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to appointment in this classification. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Working Conditions

Work is typically performed outdoors on private forest lands. Work can be under adverse conditions due to weather, topography, or when suppressing wild land fires. Adverse conditions could be present when assisting in all-risk emergency response when mobilized. Work also involves frequent contact with citizens and organizations in the promotion of forestry programs. Duties are typically performed within the Commonwealth of Kentucky; however, some functions may occur in other states.
