The Position
Foresters perform professional duties in forestry, natural resource management and conservation, fire prevention and suppression, and related areas.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) is seeking a Forester 3 to oversee natural resource program support and implementation across the southern region. Natural Resource programming focuses on implementing fuel and vegetation management along NV Energy transmission and distribution lines. This work must coincide with the priorities, goals, and objectives of NV Energy and NDF. This position will work together with partners and cooperators to coordinate, plan, implement, and track accomplishments that reduce the risk of catastrophic loss to communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems in assigned areas. This position will coordinate the implementation of assigned duties through contracting with NDF, partnering agencies, and private contractors. This position will develop scopes of work that prescribe appropriate vegetation management in accordance with local community wildfire protection plans, international wildland urban interface codes, and all state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in forestry or closely related natural resources field and two years of journey level professional natural resource experience in areas such as forest health, forest insect and disease identification and treatment, and vegetation management at a level comparable to Forester II or Nursery Specialist II; OR two years of experience as a Forester II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A thorough medical examination and physical agility test is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
