The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) is seeking a Fishery Mitigation Staff Biologist.
This position is responsible for leading and implementing the fisheries program tied to the Clark Fork Settlement Agreement with Avista Utilities and other settlement partners. This biologist will be responsible for identifying, planning, and implementing habitat and fish population protection, mitigation and enhancement projects within the funding allocations of the Clark Fork Settlement Agreement. They will collaborate and coordinate closely with staff from Avista Utilities, as well as IDFG’s Panhandle Region staff including the Regional Supervisor, Regional Fishery Manager, Pend Oreille Fishery Research Program, Enforcement Officers, and Albeni Falls Settlement Wildlife Mitigation Staff Biologist.
They will represent the IDFG and the Clark Fork Settlement Agreement collaborative at meetings involving stakeholder groups, other agencies, and various publics. They will participate and provide leadership within the transboundary, multi-jurisdictional, Aquatic Implementation Team and Resource Technical Advisory committees for the lower Clark Fork and Pend Oreille basin.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Project implementation and program management: Identifies and implements habitat restoration/improvement projects, as well as fish population management projects. This includes managing an annual budget of around $1 million, supervising a full-time biologist and technician, and overseeing a field office.
• Data collection and analysis: Typical responsibilities: collects life history and habitat data for various fish species; conducts spawning ground surveys; collects information at fish and game check stations; interprets fish research data and prepares reports; provides input on management plans and land-acquisition priorities for fisheries projects; identifies degraded aquatic habitats and develops projects to restore or improve habitat condition; and reviews and comments on environmental impact statements and reports on projects affecting fisheries resources.
• Field activities: Typical responsibilities: investigates and reports on fish kills including pesticide and pollution incidents; conducts fish salvage and planting operations; controls or eliminates undesirable fish species; implements stocking programs in streams and lakes; monitors stream-channel alterations; occasionally assists in enforcing fish and game laws.
• Liaison and public relations: Typical responsibilities:
Acts as liaison between IDFG and Avista Utilities in fulfillment of meeting Clark Fork Settlement Agreement goals in Idaho; provides information regarding fish resources, regulations, and policies to various groups and the public; provides technical information to private consulting firms on impacts of proposed developments and projects; participates in public and professional meetings; makes public presentations; participates and instructs in fishing activities.
Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required.)
• Experience demonstrating good knowledge of fish, wildlife, conservation biology, plant ecology and/or habitat management practices.
