Job Description
The NYS DEC is hiring a Seasonal Fish & Wildlife Technician 1 in Ridge, NY, to assist in monitoring threatened shorebird species and other wildlife programs. Responsibilities include site surveys, data recording, public interaction, and land management activities. The position is seasonal, hourly, and may require varied work hours, including weekends. Housing is not provided, and applicants must submit a resume and college transcript.
The Seasonal Technician in this position would, under supervision, assist in the monitoring and management of threatened and endangered shorebird species. The appointee will conduct site surveys, monitor nesting pairs, construct and maintain protective fencing, record relevant data and interact with the public regarding endangered shorebird issues.
The Technician in this position would also assist with other regional wildlife programs including the monitoring and management of endangered species; non-game species; game species; and nuisance wildlife. The person in the position may also assist in posting boundaries on state managed lands, performing land management activities including trail maintenance, grassland management and facility maintenance.
Work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview. The position may require early morning, evening and night work. Weekend work may be required.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 8/15/25. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
