Job Description
The Fish and Wildlife Technician at the Department of Fish and Wildlife will work under supervision in Butte Valley, CA, primarily at the Oroville Wildlife Area. Responsibilities include wildlife conservation, habitat management, and equipment operation in various outdoor conditions. The role is field-based, requiring physical stamina and a valid California Driver’s License. This is a permanent, full-time position with no telework options available.
Under the supervision of the Senior Fish and Wildlife Habitat Supervisor (Area Manager), the Fish and Wildlife Technician will work at the Oroville Wildlife Area and within the FERC 2100 Project boundary and may assist with similar duties within the North Central Region or Statewide. Must be able to complete wildlife conservation work, construction, repair and maintenance work, and operate various types of mechanical equipment. The goals of this position are to assist in the day-to-day management, operation and maintenance of the Area.

Working Conditions
This position is field based, and incumbent will be expected to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions, in extreme temperatures, walk or wade on uneven, muddy, or unstable terrain, be prepared to encounter mosquitoes, ticks, stinging/biting insects, rattlesnakes and other wildlife. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) over uneven terrain in multiple types of habitats including hills, fields, ponds and marshes, and safely operate hand and power tools for habitat management on department lands. Work hours may vary and may be required to work holidays, weekends and/or unusual hours. Work activities will include repetitive lifting and other physically challenging duties. Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License. Will be required to operate and maintain vehicles, tractors, and equipment/tools needed to complete tasks in a natural environment. This position requires the incumbent to wear a CDFW uniform consistent with Department policy.
This position will report to Oroville Wildlife Area in Oroville, CA and work will be primarily performed in Butte County. State housing is not available.

Special Requirements
This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License. Must maintain a clean driving record. The selected candidate may be required to provide a photocopy (front and back) of the license: Name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL #, Class, expiration.
