The Fish and Wildlife Biologist position at the Department of the Interior is a permanent role based in Ventura, California, specifically within the R8-Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office. Responsibilities
• Conduct reviews of projects for potential fish, wildlife, and botanical resource problems.
,
• Review analysis of potential impacts to fish, wildlife, and trust resources for National Environmental Policy Act documents.
,
• Provide technical assistance in the interpretation and implementation of laws, regulations, and policies in the area of fish, wildlife, and botanical resources to personnel of Federal, State, and/or County agencies.
,
• Respond to written inquiries, obtaining and providing requested information within established guidelines.

Requirements
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
,
• Possess a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in the aforementioned fields.

• One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility equivalent to grade GS-5 in the Federal service, including assisting with routine studies or assessments, reviewing biological portions of environmental assessments, and processing research/recovery permits.
,
• Successful completion of 1 full year (18 semester hours) of graduate education in relevant fields; OR a combination of specialized experience and graduate education that equals 100% of the total requirement.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience with federal environmental laws and Executive Orders, such as the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act.

• Strong written communication skills for preparing reports and correspondence for diverse audiences.
