Candidates should have a relevant engineering degree and at least 6 years of experience in field engineering or construction support, particularly in water, wastewater, or industrial sectors.
Description:
As a Field & Site Engineer, you will support the execution, commissioning, and operational transition of infrastructure projects at Integrated Sustainability. You will work closely with project managers, designers, contractors, and clients to ensure that systems are constructed, commissioned, and operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design intent.
This role is field-focused and hands-on, with a strong presence on active project sites. You will play a key role during construction, commissioning, and early operations, supporting troubleshooting, performance verification, and operational readiness. The position is well suited to an engineer who enjoys problem-solving in real-world conditions and working directly with site teams.
Responsibilities:
• Support commissioning planning and execution, including development and implementation of commissioning checklists, procedures, and test plans.
• Solid understanding of process systems, piping, valves, instrumentation, and control elements.
• Interpret and apply Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to support construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
• Provide on-site engineering support during construction and installation of water, waste, or industrial systems.
• Review construction activities for conformance with drawings, specifications, and design intent.
• Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and project teams to resolve technical and constructability issues.
• Support field inspections, progress tracking, and deficiency resolution.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, process, and control issues during commissioning and early operations.
• Verify that systems meet design, safety, and performance requirements prior to handover.
• Collect, review, and interpret operational data to support performance evaluation and issue resolution.
• Provide ongoing technical support to operations teams as required.
• Coordinate closely with design engineers to communicate field conditions, lessons learned, and recommended design adjustments.
• Prepare clear field reports, commissioning documentation, and technical summaries.
• Maintain awareness of schedule, scope, and site constraints, and communicate risks or delays proactively.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with site-specific health and safety requirements.
Position Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, or related Engineering discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in field engineering, construction support, commissioning, or operations roles.
• Experience supporting infrastructure projects in water, wastewater, industrial, mining, or energy sectors.
• Registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and/or Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) is considered an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing high-quality technical deliverables.
What We're Looking For:
• Demonstrated experience supporting commissioning and start-up of engineered systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment, process, and operational issues in field environments.
• Experience working directly with contractors, operators, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple site activities simultaneously.
• Comfort working in active construction and operational environments.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and clear documentation.
• Willingness to travel and work on project sites as required.
• Flexibility and the ability to manage change with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
