The Field Engineer at Environmental Health & Engineering will join the Commissioning Team to work on projects related to commissioning, data analysis, and energy optimization. Field Engineer – Commissioning, Engineering, Energy Services

Job Summary:

As a part of EH&E’s Commissioning Team, a Field Engineer will contribute to collaborative project teams focused on, commissioning, retro-commissioning, data collection and analysis, energy and emissions optimization and decarbonization of the built environment. The successful applicant will demonstrate an ability to learn quickly, proactively, and independently, leveraging colleagues and available resources to get up to speed on existing service offerings and to ultimately help improve and expand EH&E’s capabilities.

A typical day might include data collection or equipment inspection in the field, as well as data analysis or reporting in the office. This position reports to a senior staff member in Commissioning, Engineering, and Energy.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise
• Read and understand construction drawings, technical drawings, schematics, data, and reports.
• Research and complete takeoff estimates to assist in proposal development and project budgeting.
• Review equipment specifications and help to develop manuals for building operators.
• Learn to evaluate mechanical equipment, systems, and processes to meet performance requirements by applying knowledge of engineering principles.

Data Analysis
• Processes collected data using existing tools and templates.
• Documents assumptions, data sources, and judgments to facilitate quality control and support future data update management.
• Learns and adapts to new analysis platforms, including modeling software, spreadsheet and database software.
• Collect data by following specified quality control procedures. Alert project managers to any observed deviations.

Communication
• Communicates clearly verbally to colleagues, clients, and partners. Supports meetings and/or presentations with internal and external stakeholders.
• The successful candidate will work to grow into a consultant and subject matter expert who can share their opinion with a wide range of stakeholders in a thoughtful and articulate manner.
• Has the ability to communicate clearly in multiple formats. Supports internal and external documentation for clients and colleagues.
• Learns from and is able to apply constructive feedback appropriately.

Management
• Adheres to project and task timelines. Produces deliverables which are complete and timely.
• Manages time and priorities effectively.
• Communicates challenges as they arise and navigates different internal and external tasks appropriately.

Sales & Client Relations
• Reinforces EH&E’s business integrity and supports client retention through positive, professional, respectful, and knowledgeable interactions with clients, partners, and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BS degree in Mechanical, Facilities, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management preferred.
• 0+ years of experience required.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is a preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Flexibility to work in the field with clients and contractors, working with your hands in a limited capacity, while also being suited to work in an office to analyze data and write reports.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Exposure to databases and programming are preferred.
• Experience with reading and understanding construction drawings, equipment specifications, engineering data, and technical reports is preferred.
• Experience with Mechanical-Electrical-Plumbing (MEP) system performance, testing, and troubleshooting is preferred.
• Willingness to adjust to changing project needs, which can include travel and off-hours work.
