Job Description
The Pingry School seeks a part-time Farm and Sustainability Intern for its Basking Ridge campus. The role involves supporting sustainability initiatives, managing the educational farm, and assisting with various sustainability projects. The position offers flexible hours (up to 20 hours/week) and runs from June 1, 2025, to June 15, 2026, with a pay rate of $15.50/hour. This is an on-site position, not remote.

Sustainability at Pingry
At The Pingry School, experiential learning initiatives directly foster Pingry's mission, encouraging intellectual, physical, and emotional learning and the cultivation of responsible and thoughtful citizens. Our 200+ acre Basking Ridge campus provides the perfect backdrop for students to develop an appreciation for nature and the environment. The campus boasts a wide array of sustainable features, such as a farm, large-scale composter and trail network with campsite. We offer courses with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental practices, as well as robust "green" extracurricular programs in both the Middle and Upper Schools. In addition, many courses outside of those considered "environmental" in focus utilize Pingry's farm, forest, and composter as experiential laboratories for their work. Position SummaryThe Pingry School is seeking a part-time Farm and Sustainability Intern to support sustainability and experiential education initiatives at our Basking Ridge campus. The Intern will gain valuable insight, skills, and knowledge in the management and growth of an educational farm and sustainability program. They will be responsible for assisting in the operation of the farm, garden, greenhouse, composter and trail network, as well as working with faculty and students on sustainability programming and clubs.
Salary: $15.50/hour
Contract Dates: June 1, 2025-June 15, 2026
Responsibilities:
• Part-time 12-month position (up to 20 hours per week over 3-4 days), hours and days, flexible based on availability and school needs.
• Primary duties are farm and sustainability management, such as composting cafeteria waste; watering the garden and greenhouse; caring for chickens; and general upkeep of farm and compost facilities. Additional farm related projects as needed to assist the Assistant Director of Experiential Education (Sustainability).
• Secondary duties may include working with students from the Middle and Upper School Green Teams on building projects and sustainability initiatives, managing student schedules for composting and chicken care, and assisting teachers with classes at the farm.
• Duties are somewhat flexible based on the specific interests and existing skills of the candidate.
Qualifications:
• Current student or recent graduate (preferred) of an accredited college or university.
• Interest in sustainability education or educational farming.
• Must haves: love of the outdoors, willingness to get dirty and work hard, interest in working with students, can lift and carry 25-50 pounds for short distances.
• Nice to have: farm experience, outdoor education experience, ability to operate farm equipment.
