Position Summary & Responsibilities

The position (K0243546)

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has an Epidemiologist opening in Topeka. This position will have a hybrid work schedule. The Bureau of Epidemiology and Public Health Informatics is seeking epidemiologist for the KDHE Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Section to conduct prevention, detection, and response activities for antimicrobial resistant (AR) infections and provide back-up support for response to healthcare-associated infections (HAI).

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Enters and monitors data on reportable cases, outbreak related cases and cases related to infection control breach investigations in the Kansas electronic disease surveillance system (EpiTrax).
• Utilizes available data sources like laboratory reports, review clinical information from healthcare facilities, and health information exchange networks, and assess potential exposure risks to formulate prevention and response guidance.
• Participates in infection prevention and control responses (ICARs), via onsite and remote/video conferencing.
• Assists with the development of special studies and projects to assess the burden of AR infections.
• Prepares reports in written, interactive dashboards, and oral formats for use within KDHE, external partners, for distribution to health care providers, the public, and the media.

Qualifications
• Education:
• Master’s of Public Health or Master’s of Science.
• Licensing & Certification:
• Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State.
• Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s of Public Health or Master’s of Science.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with epidemiological analysis and/or biostatistics.
• Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, REDCap, Tableau, SAS, Epi-Info, SPSS, or other statistical packages.
• Ability to apply computers for the manipulation, analysis, and management of HAI and AR data.
• Ability to conduct comprehensive analyses on HAI and AR data.
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships with colleagues and outside partners.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Proofreading, editing, attention to detail.
• Knowledge of infectious diseases.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control.
• Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:
• Current CBIC certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) - if not current, can recertify within 2 years of starting the position or certify for the first time within 5 years of starting the position.
