Job Description

The State of Missouri is hiring an Environmental Specialist for its Kansas City Regional Office in Lee's Summit, MO. Responsibilities include conducting hazardous waste inspections, writing technical reports, providing technical assistance, and participating in public education events. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree and relevant experience. The position offers a flexible 40-hour work week, benefits, and professional development opportunities.

This position will be located at the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Kansas City Regional Office, 200 Unity Circle North, Suite 2A, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086.
• Conduct hazardous waste inspections and investigations of permitted and unpermitted facilities
• Complete written technical reports detailing the findings of inspection of facilities
• Complete concern forms and reports documenting compliance or non-compliance issues of concerns investigations.
• Provide technical assistance to facilities
• Review technical manuals and scientific references, research department files, and consult with outside resource professionals
• Prepare and execute detailed briefings on environmental issues to management staff
• Occasionally participate in public education and recruiting events pertaining to environmental control
• Perform other duties as assigned

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:
• Writing: Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct, brief, clear and organized manner; produces written information, which may include technical material, that is appropriate for the intended audience.
• Customer Service: Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers. Delivers high-quality products and services; is committed to continuous improvement.
• Adaptability: adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
• Bachelor’s degree and 0-4 years of relevant experience.
