Job Description
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is seeking an Environmental Specialist in Laurentian Hills, ON. The role involves developing environmental protection standards, leading investigations, and managing the Environmental Data Management System. Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Engineering or Science, experience in nuclear facilities, and strong communication and organizational skills. The position requires office work with periodic field presence and security clearance eligibility.
What will you be doing!
• Developing Environmental Protection program corporate standards, procedures and related documentation associated with monitoring programs.
• Establishing, documenting and maintaining site specific monitoring program specifications.
• Leading investigations into adverse effluent quality conditions, in consultation with monitoring services staff, facility staff, Facility Managers, and other Environmental Specialists.
• Establishing best practices and monitoring program improvements.
• Overseeing the operation and maintenance of the corporate Environmental Data Management System to ensure long‑term viability and usefulness; this includes historical and steady‑state data management, stakeholder relations, marketing efforts, feedback solicitation and integration into planning around system fixes, enhancements and upgrades, licensing renewals, and budgeting.
• Assisting in other areas of the environmental protection program.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
• Education
• Bachelors (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing OR membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
• Experience
• Experience in a nuclear facility would be desirable.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Familiarity with Environmental Aspects of the operation of nuclear sites would be highly desirable.
• Ability to interact effectively with managers and staff of facilities, laboratories, and support groups, and to work as a part of a team is required.
• Effective verbal and written communications skills are required.
• Good organizational and project management skills, with attention to detail, are required.
• Knowledge or foundation in data management software (e.g., databases) is required.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
• Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty‑seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
• Predominantly office work, periodic field presence required, frequent interactions with field & laboratory staff, facility staff & managers, and other Environmental Specialists.

This role is a fully onsite role that requires the employee to primarily work at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site, with only occasional opportunities to work remotely, if desired by the employee.
