Job Description

Sibanye Stillwater is seeking an Environmental Specialist 3 or 4 for their Stillwater Mine in Nye, MT. The role involves overseeing environmental programs, ensuring compliance, and fostering teamwork. Responsibilities include training, project management, and environmental systems implementation. Schedule:

5x2, 4x3 9hr Shifts

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Environmental Specialist 3 or 4 is an experienced environmental professional who takes ownership of and is accountable for specific aspects of Sibanye-Stillwater's Mine environmental programs. This position will be part of an environmental team championing Sibanye-Stillwater's environmental programs while providing support for site compliance, systems implementation, training, and reporting functions.

The Environmental Specialist 3 or 4's primary duties are:
• Foster an inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and innovation and actively seek feedback from the workforce for continuous improvements.
• Foster positive, cooperative relationships with other groups in the Company.
• Promote and maintain a safe work environment, safe work practices, and a strong safety culture.
• Ensure that Environmental Excellence is practiced with in area of responsibility.
• Coaches and assists in development of Environmental staff and participates in training of site employees and staff.
• Able to partner with multiple site leadership teams to implement best practices and collaborate in evaluating recommending best practice.
• Assists with planning, scheduling, and environmental oversight of operational and capital projects. Ensures that resources are available for the timely completion of projects.
• Authors documents required for environmental systems implementation, compliance reporting, and operating systems.
• Responsible for environmental systems implementation and maintenance at an operational level for the Stillwater and East Boulder Mines.
• Directs or conducts studies and evaluations for optimization in water/tailings/air/waste/land management systems as needed.
• Regularly participates, and at times, presents in site leadership meetings, and/or higher level environmental, regulatory, or other stakeholder forums.
• Provides guidance to Operations personnel in the planning and response to environmental issues.
• May manage and oversee multiple engineering studies and evaluations for proposed improvements or changes within the water/tailings/waste management systems.
• Acts as key advisor to site technical staff regarding project requirements.
• Plans, conducts, and supervises multiple compliance, engineering and related assignments including project management.
• Expertise in State and Federal regulations, permits, and is accountable for permit compliance.
• Ensures compliance with environmental obligations through inspections, physical audits, and timely correction of identified deficiencies.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Assists with the preparation, coordination, and review of compliance requirements, monitoring data, and permitting with a heavy emphasis on data interpretation and reporting.
• Actively participate in internal and external audits of site environmental management systems.

Qualifications and Skills:
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Technical writing Skills.
• Able to effectively identify critical problems then develop and implement resolutions.
• Willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions and underground on occasion.
• Proven ability to work autonomously, as well as, within a team-based environment.
• Ability to travel between mine sites as needed to complete work scope.
• Working knowledge of State and Federal environmental regulations & accountable for permit compliance.
• Strong knowledge of project management processes and ability to build schedules.
• Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and database applications.
• Experience with implementing ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems preferred.
• Understanding of MSHA regulations preferred.

Education & Experience
• BS, MS, or Technical Degree in environmental, or related field with a minimum of 5 years environmental experience within the mining industry or related industry.
• Previous leadership experience preferred.
