Job Description
The Sac and Fox Tribe of Iowa is seeking an Environmental Specialist to assist with Tribal Environmental programs, including air, water, ecology, and soil management. Responsibilities include data collection, program oversight, outreach activities, and grant management. Candidates should have an associate's degree in a related field or equivalent experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently. The position requires travel for training and meetings.
TITLE: Environmental Specialist DEPARTMENT: Natural Resources
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist in the implementation of Tribal Environmental programs and projects.
• Assist in programmatic oversight of all aspects of current and developing Environmental Branch programs, to include:
• Air
• Water
• Ecology
• Soil
• Wetlands
• Conduct/assist in the development ofresource assessments and inventories including:
• Maintain and develop related maps and databases.
• Maintain accurate records of work activities, data, and information gathered for Environmental reporting requirements.
• Assist in the development and implementation of research methods and procedures for monitoring environmental components.
• Collect and organize data for monitoring Tribal Natural Resources
• Attend training conferences and meetings as appropriate to assigned responsibilities.
• Assist with and develop outreach and education activities, including events, print and electronic media
• Assist in maintenance and repairs of department tools, equipment, etc.
• Assist with grant development, management and deliverables reporting.
• Assist with the supervision of full time/seasonal technicians and field staff
• Maintain and further develop GPS/GIS databases.
• All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Associates degree (w/ Bachelor's degree preferred) in Natural Resource, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and professional experience in Natural Resource related work.
• Working knowledge of the physical and life sciences (e.g., land, soil, water)
• Ability to analyze data and communicate results in oral and written presentations.
• Physical ability to collect field data in all sorts of weather conditions.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Must be dependable, possess initiative, be self-motivated and work independently
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable.
• Must successfully pass a background investigation.
• Travel required for training, conferences, and/or meetings.
• Ability to have flexible hours.
• Punctuality is required.
SUPERVISION:
• Supervised by the Meskwaki Nation Department of Natural Resources Director
SALARY LEVEL:
• Annual Salary Range: $42,681 - $68,078.40
