The Environmental Specialist position at Olin in McIntosh, Alabama, is a permanent role focused on the implementation of environmental initiatives and ensuring compliance with various environmental regulations. The specialist will play a crucial role in maintaining and improving environmental performance while adhering to federal, state, local, corporate, and site-specific requirements. This position is integral to the company's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, and it reports directly to the Site EHS Manager. In this role, the Environmental Specialist will manage air, water, and waste regulatory requirements, including Risk Management Plan (RMP) compliance and permit applications for plant projects involving new and modified equipment. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring that the site maintains its operational permits and will oversee environmental improvement and compliance projects. This includes preparing and submitting reports by required deadlines and representing the company in interactions with external agencies. The specialist will also participate in plant and division audits, interfacing with both internal and external auditors as well as regulatory and government agency personnel. Investigating environmental incidents will be a key responsibility, where the specialist will develop corrective actions and recommend preventive measures to avoid future occurrences. Additionally, the role involves developing programs for environmental remedial action and leading teams during critical incidents, ensuring effective communication and evaluation of needs. Overall, the Environmental Specialist will be a vital part of Olin's commitment to environmental excellence, working collaboratively with various stakeholders to promote compliance and sustainability within the organization.
Responsibilities
• Manage air, water and waste regulatory and permit requirements, including permit applications for plant projects.

• Ensure adequate management systems are in place to maintain compliance with all site environmental operational permits.

• Manage environmental improvement and compliance projects.

• Prepare reports and submit by required deadlines; represent the company with outside agencies.

• Participate in plant and division audits and interface with internal and external auditors and regulatory personnel.

• Investigate environmental incidents, develop corrective actions, and recommend preventive measures.

• Develop programs for environmental remedial action and lead teams for critical incidents.
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science discipline preferred.

• 5+ years of related environmental experience in a manufacturing environment; prior chemical industry experience preferred.

• Strong US regulatory/compliance experience.
,
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, as well as with regulators, both verbally and in writing.

• Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).

• Prior Olin experience preferred.
