• ENGINEERING PREFERRED
• 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
• OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents. Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
• OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.

What We Need YOU To Do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM) at our Southwest District Office in Dayton, Ohio.

Let’s dive right in!

As DMWM’s environmental specialist, you will review technical reports, permit applications, and other documents on existing and proposed DMWM facilities and sites for completeness, accuracy, and compliance. You’ll prepare various technical papers and perform environmental sampling and field inspections to evaluate compliance with Ohio's solid waste, construction, and demolition debris laws and regulations.

You’ll perform engineering inspections of solid waste, infectious waste, construction, and demolition facilities, conducting complaint investigations to evaluate compliance with state regulations and approved permits. You'll prepare correspondence summarizing inspection findings and develop strategies for bringing about compliance.

Additionally, you’ll participate in agency and division technical workgroups, serve as a technical expert in enforcement cases, and perform various public relations tasks such as preparing and delivering public presentations, providing technical assistance, and attending training conferences. You’ll also give technical assistance to boards of health, municipal officials, county commissioners, township trustees, and engineers regarding solid, construction, demolition debris, scrap tire, and infectious waste management.
