The Environmental Specialist 2 position at the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency requires 12 months of experience in environmental work or a relevant degree. • OR 4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology &/or other comparable physical or health science field &/or mathematics which included responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys &/or inspections/reviews or investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal & saltwater injection wells & enhanced recovery projects or coal mining, or solid/hazardous waste sites or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, or collecting, compiling & preparing various environmental assessments, evaluations, reports & related documents. Training & experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
• OR baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.

What We Need YOU To Do:

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Environmental and Financial Assistance (DEFA) at our Central Office in Columbus, Ohio.

Let’s dive right in!

As Ohio EPA’s environmental specialist, you’ll provide financial, technical, and administrative assistance for projects through the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF), the Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA), federal SAAP program grants, and other projects and programs within the scope of DEFA. You’ll coordinate the intra-office project review team to ensure program requirements are met and review applications for compliance with necessary requirements. You’ll compile and maintain accurate project files, recommend and prepare assistance agreements for approval, and conduct necessary research and investigations related to these projects.

You’ll be in the field, performing periodic site visits to ensure recipients’ ongoing compliance with assistance requirements. You’ll track, monitor, and document determinations for project nominations, grant and loan applications, project schedules, post-award project requirements, and grant costs. Additionally, you’ll coordinate and review payment requests and disbursements, conducting necessary research and investigations for the performance of the above.

Responding to inquiries on financial, procedural, and environmental concerns, you’ll assist applicants with developing and preparing application documents. You’ll promote environmental assistance programs by providing the public with program information relevant to their specific circumstances, identifying potential applicants, and initiating contact with governmental officials to inform them of the division’s assistance programs. You’ll also organize and conduct project meetings to resolve project obstacles.
