What We Need YOU To Do
Ohio EPA wants you to be our newest environmental specialist with the Division of Air Pollution Control (DAPC) at our Groveport Field Office (GFO) in Franklin County.
You’ll get some serious ‘air’ time in this job!
We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented person to operate and collect samples from air monitoring equipment in DAPC’s Central Ohio Biowatch Network, which measures air pollutants to ensure Ohio EPA is meeting air quality standards to protect public health.
In the field, you’ll install, maintain, and calibrate air monitoring equipment including continuous, high volume particulate samplers. You’ll extract and transport exposed filters and conduct on-site and in-lab maintenance when necessary. In the office, you’ll enter sample data into our systems and keep appropriate logs and records including equipment maintenance activity and calibrations.
You’ll track and maintain parts and equipment inventory to keep the network’s monitors operating accurately and reliably. As you gain experience, you’ll help provide topical training, guidance, and support to Ohio EPA district offices and local air quality agencies.
Here are those key tasks.
• Perform field work on air monitors within the Central Ohio BioWatch program.
• Maintain continuous operations of equipment and monitoring network.
• Maintain timely and accurate records and logs of equipment sample data and operations.
• Provide training and support to district offices and local air agencies.
SPECIAL WORKING HOURS (Explain unusual or rotating shift): SPECIAL WORKING HOURS SU 6:00AM – 10AM; M-TH 6:00AM - 3:30 PM - NO UNUSUAL WORKING HOURS FROM: 06:00 TO: 03:30 PM

4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving geology or hydrology, engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science &/or other comparable physical or health science field, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
• Or baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science field.
• Or positions involved in providing financial, technical & administrative assistance for planning, design & implementation of environmental infrastructure & pollution abatement, & prevention projects, applicants must have completed undergraduate core coursework in business/public administration, public relations/marketing, political science or communications, or have 4 yrs. exp. in position involving public contact to explain policies, procedures & programs of agency, writing of promotional &/or explanatory publications & materials, budgeting, contract administration & working with others on team projects. Note: For all positions engaged in field work, applicants must be able to provide own transportation. New employees in EPA's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period.
• Or 12 mos. exp. as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
• Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
