Job Description

The State of Delaware - DNREC is seeking an Environmental Scientist III to support shoreline and waterway management. The role involves investigating technological improvements, managing environmental projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with various teams. Summary Statement

This position plays a key role in supporting and enhancing the capacity of the program by investigating, evaluating, and implementing technological improvements and new methods. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with field operations, engineering, and scientific teams to manage environmental projects, ensure regulatory compliance, and contribute to the overall success of shoreline and waterway initiatives.

Selective Requirement

Selective Requirements must be met in addition to the job requirements. Applicants who do not possess the selective requirement will not be qualified.

One year experience in using computerized mapping software applications such as Geographic Information System (GIS) or Global Positioning System (GPS) for collecting, analyzing, and mapping data

Essential Functions

Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.



Performs statistical analysis of data.



Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.



Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.



Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist III

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.

Six months experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.

Two years' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.

Two years' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.

Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire and report on data.

Six months experience in technical report writing.
