Job Description

The State of Delaware is hiring an Environmental Scientist III in Lewes, DE, to support the DNREC Shoreline and Waterway Management Section. The role involves conducting field studies, data analysis, and technical reviews to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Candidates should have a relevant degree and experience in project management, data analysis, and interpreting environmental laws. This is a full-time position.
Job Title: Environmental Scientist III

The DNREC Shoreline and Waterway Management Section works to maintain and improve Delaware's beaches, shorelines, and waterways.

This position plays a key role in supporting and enhancing the capacity of the program by investigating, evaluating, and implementing technological improvements and new methods.

Selective Requirement:
• One year experience in using computerized mapping software applications such as Geographic Information System (GIS) or Global Positioning System (GPS) for collecting, analyzing, and mapping data
Essential Functions:
• Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews, and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
• Performs statistical analysis of data.
• Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Prepares permits, technical reports, and/or enforcement case documents.
• Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local, and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.
Job Requirements:
• Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or related field.
• Six months experience in environmental or natural resources project management which includes planning, developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating environmental or natural resources projects to ensure objectives are met.
• Two years' experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data.
• Two years' experience in interpreting environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire, and report on data.
• Six months experience in technical report writing.
