We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Scientist I to join our team. This entry-level position focuses on conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and supporting/leading Phase II ESAs in accordance with ASTM standards. This is a multi-disciplinary position that will aid the natural resources team with wetland delineations and threatened and endangered species surveys. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a strong foundation in environmental consulting, site assessment, and regulatory compliance.

Primary Responsibilities:
Effectively plan/conduct field surveys for Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, wetlands, wildlife and habitat assessmentsPrepare report documentation, supporting materials and permit applications in support of client projects for a wide variety of industriesConduct wetland delineations and wetland functional assessments in accordance with applicable agency regulations and guidanceConduct vegetation inventories and monitoringConduct wildlife surveys and habitat assessments for listed speciesRecord, enter, organize, manage, and analyze ecological/environmental dataCommunicate scientific/technical information to the project manager and teamReview environmental reports, permits and related materialsCompile and analyze data and prepare comprehensive reports, including literature, methods, protocols, and regulatory rules for special status speciesApply current state, federal, and local environmental regulations to develop guidance, prepare permit applications, conduct agency coordination, and serve as project and/or task manager on assigned projectsCoordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, that include other ecologists/scientists, engineers, planners, surveyors, government agencies, landowners and other entities as requiredConduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) in accordance with ASTM E1527 standardsPerform site inspections, historical research, and regulatory database reviewsIdentify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) and prepare detailed reportsCoordinate field activities such as drilling, sampling, and subcontractor oversightAssist with and/or lead Phase II ESAs, including soil, groundwater, and vapor samplingInterpret laboratory analytical data and prepare technical reportsEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulationsCommunicate findings clearly to project managers and clientsMaintain accurate field notes, documentation, and data management

Field Duties (approximately 50% of the time):
Working outdoors, sometimes exposed to inclement weather conditionsWalking distances of up to 5 miles per day over rugged, heavily vegetated terrainStanding for long periods of timeLifting and carrying up to 50 lbsWearing various required personal protective equipment (PPE)Working with handheld data collectors and GPS software and equipment

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geology, geography, biology, wildlife management or related field.1-3 years of relevant experienceSolid organizational and technical writing skills.Effective time-management, written communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.Articulate with professional presence and decision making skills.Ability to work effectively in team situations and establish strong relationships with other teams where overlap of client project work exists.Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).Understanding of ASTM standards (E1527, E1903) is a plus

Preferred Skills:
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (or willingness to obtain)Experience with soil and groundwater sampling techniquesFamiliarity with GIS, environmental databases, and report preparation toolsStrong organizational and problem-solving skills
