About the position
SCS Engineers is seeking an energetic and forward-thinking Environmental Scientist to join their Long Beach, CA office. The role involves a combination of office and field work, focusing on environmental assessments and compliance. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication and analytical skills, with a desire for professional growth.
Responsibilities
• Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Investigations in accordance with ASTM Standards.
,
• Perform multi-media sampling including soil, soil vapor, groundwater, indoor air, methane, surface water, and sediment.
,
• Supervise contractors during field activities to ensure regulatory and safety compliance.
,
• Prepare lithological logs and boring logs.
,
• Write reports and prepare supporting documentation.
,
• Manage small to mid-scale projects and support larger projects as needed.
,
• Communicate project status, schedules, and compliance issues with clients, third parties, and regulatory agents.
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field required.
,
• Minimum of 3-5 years of related environmental experience.
,
• Well versed in water quality, environmental regulations, and environmental assessment/remediation.
,
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer programs such as AutoCAD, Surfer, and/or ArcGIS.
,
• HAZWOPER training completed and up to date.
,
• Asbestos coursework up to date and Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) certification preferred.
,
• Progress towards professional certification (PE/PG) preferred.
,
• Good communication and writing skills required.
,
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record required.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience with field equipment preferred.
,
• Certification in asbestos oversight preferred.
