Bechtel is seeking an Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) Coordinator in Valparaiso, IN. The role involves developing and executing safety programs, providing technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Responsibilities include integrating safety into project planning, conducting risk assessments, and participating in emergency response. The position requires practical application of occupational safety principles to manage safety aspects of projects.

Project Overview:
Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational renewables and clean energy projects. Bechtel renewables team will perform the project management, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and startup for the Mammoth South, Central I and Central II project for a 376MW DC each (Total of 1.1GW DC) solar plant in Pulaski County, Indiana
Job Summary:
An Environmental Safety & Health (ES&H) Coordinator helps develop and execute the safety component of an ES&H program. This involves administrative and field tasks per established industry practices, procedures, and regulatory and Bechtel requirements. The position requires practical application of occupational safety and related disciplines for managing safety and health aspects of a project or facility.
Major Responsibilities:
• Assists in integrating safety and health requirements into project planning and construction Interprets requirements and provides technical assistance to other project groups regarding risk assessment, plan preparation, and ES&H program execution Identifies regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
• Provides technical guidance for safety studies, risk and hazard assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
• Assists in the development and implementation of the project Safety and Health Management Plan, associated plans and procedures, and training program.
• Helps develop and implement safety and health communication and awareness measures involving training presentations, flyers, posters, signage, and other communication and training media.
• Participates in emergency response and aids the investigation and resolution of safety-related incidents.
• Assists in identifying stakeholders and resolving their concerns.
• Provides safety input to other project groups, so that ES&H requirements are integrated within project planning, design, construction plans, procurement, and subcontracts.
• Participates in meetings, as required, with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of safety and health requirements.
• Conducts inspections and monitoring to help evaluate ES&H performance, identify corrective actions, and confirm compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements Assists in tracking ES&H performance and trends and preparing reports.
• Supports other ES&H team members and tasks associated with all three ES&H disciplines.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Requires a Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) related to environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources with 1-2 years of relevant experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing abilities.
• Computer skills for preparing presentations, data management, and report preparation.
• Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping Valid driver's license Specialized knowledge in a safety specialty (e.g., Personal Protective Equipment, lockout/tagout, fall protection, excavation, Craft Based Leadership) or engineering (e.g., civil, process safety, mechanical) or related disciplines.
• Knowledge of safety management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
• Knowledge of safety and health laws and regulations and applicable agencies’ permitting processes and responsibilities.
• Knowledge of engineering, construction, and subcontract work processes.
• Skilled in oral and written communication and knowledge of computer applications.
• Demonstrated interest, training, and experience in applied sciences Knowledge of ISO 45001 Management System standards.
• Broad technical knowledge and experience related to occupational health and safety. Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
• Ability to support multiple work shifts, as needed.
