Job Description

Suffolk County Council is seeking an Environmental Protection Technical Officer to join their Environmental Protection Team. The role involves delivering statutory environmental services, conducting investigations and inspections related to pollution, public health, and environmental crime. Candidates should have knowledge of relevant legislation and experience in Environmental Protection or law enforcement. The position offers flexible working arrangements, allowing for a mix of home and office work.

We currently have an opportunity to join East Suffolk Council's Environmental Protection Team as an Environmental Protection Technical Officer.

The role:

You will be responsible for delivering a range of statutory services for which the Council is responsible for in relation to environmental protection, pollution and public health controls.

Assisting in developing a culture of continuous improvement and performance, ensuring the Council’s values and behaviours are embedded in delivering a customer focused service.

You will undertake investigations, inspections and sampling in connection with a range of Environmental Protection matters including private water supplies, air quality, contaminated land, statutory nuisance including noise, waste, pests and anti-social behaviour and enviro crime.

This will involve gathering evidence from a variety of sources to the standards required by PACE codes of practice and the criminal courts.

What you will need:

Knowledge of legislation and standards across a broad range of Environmental Protection matters including public health, drainage, air quality, contaminated land, water quality, private water supplies, pollution control, environmental permitting, statutory nuisance, private nuisance, public nuisance, pest control, waste, dog control, antisocial behaviour, licensing including animals, scrap metal and alcohol/licensable activities.

Relevant experience in Environmental Protection, law enforcement, Antisocial Behaviour in the public, private or voluntary sector

Experience of interacting with members of the public in an Environmental Protection or law enforcement role and an experience of related information & record keeping systems, processes and practices.
