The Environmental Protection Specialist position is located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, specifically within the External Affairs Division. The role involves managing all aspects of environmental compliance processes and documentation for the park, evaluating proposed projects, plans, and programs for potential environmental effects, and ensuring compliance with applicable policies and regulations. The specialist will keep the supervisor fully briefed and provide timely oral and written consultations to park managers on environmental compliance matters. The position also requires facilitating interdisciplinary team reviews of projects, plans, and programs to develop environmental compliance documentation. The specialist will coordinate with other experts to obtain technical and policy analysis of complex external proposals that may affect parks and other areas under National Park Service jurisdiction. Specific project descriptions include providing a sustainable visitor access ramp in the Hite District, rehabilitating critical utility systems in Wahweap and Lone Rock, reconstructing mid-lake essential services, and relocating and rehabilitating the Rainbow Bridge floating walkways and anchor system. Each of these projects requires compliance support to ensure they meet environmental standards and regulations. The work environment is primarily office-based but includes field inspections and occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and workshops. The position may involve moderate risks and discomforts, such as exposure to dust and extreme weather conditions. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework, subject to supervisor approval.

Responsibilities

Requirements
• U.S. Citizenship required.

• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

• Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

• Prior to first official motor vehicle operation, must sign an affidavit certifying possession of a valid state-issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified.

• Must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old with specific educational qualifications.
