Job Description
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is hiring an Environmental Protection Specialist in Camarillo, CA. The role involves managing offshore resource exploration while balancing economic development and environmental protection. Candidates must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, including NEPA and CZMA document preparation, environmental impact assessments, and effective communication with stakeholders. The position offers a salary range of $103,409 to $156,323 annually and is full-time.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) manages the exploration and development of the nation's offshore resources. It seeks to appropriately balance economic development, energy independence, and environmental protection through oil and gas leases, renewable energy development and environmental reviews and studies. To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series/grade to which you are applying.
Specialized Experience
To qualify for the GS-13, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience:
• Coordinating and preparing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and/or Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA) documents for complex projects which include Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), or consistency determinations (CD);
• Determining the effects of oil and gas energy, renewable energy, marine minerals, and/or alternative use activities on marine and coastal environments and determining the measures to effectively mitigate them;
• Effectively communicating technical information, in written and verbal formats, to management and external stakeholders with varying technical backgrounds; AND
• Developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing complex environmental projects and resources.
