Job Description

Weston & Sampson is hiring a full-time Environmental Project Planner in Rocky Hill, CT. The role requires 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting, focusing on permitting in CT, MA, and NH. Responsibilities include overseeing project teams, managing client relationships, and assisting in business development. The position involves some travel for client meetings and project sites, and candidates must have relevant certifications and strong communication skills.
Weston & Sampson is seeking a full-time senior-level Project Environmental Scientist/Planner who is experienced in environmental permitting to support our ecological/permitting group in our New England offices, preferrably in MA, NH, or CT. The candidate will handle multiple projects simultaneously and oversee multi-disciplinary project teams. The candidate will also assist with business development efforts, presentations to various committees and boards, and manage client aspects of projects.

What You’ll Do
• Environmental permitting in CT, MA, and NH; including federal, state, and local environmental permit applications and technical reports; MA Wetlands Protection Act, Section 401/404 Permitting, Chapter 91 Waterways and MEPA/NEPA submittals.
• Handling flexible workload, diverse project files, and working well with multiple staff members.
• Overseeing project teams with preparing permit applications for multi-disciplinary projects.
• Delineating wetlands using the US Army Corps of Engineers methodology.
• Manage technical, budgetary and client aspects of projects.
• Assist with business development, marketing, and proposal preparation with support from senior management.
• Attend public hearings and present projects to various committees and boards.
• Establishing long-term relationships with agency, municipal and private clients.
• Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff.
• Participate in professional organizations through presentations and/or technical committees.

What You Will Bring
• 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting is a must.
• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or related field.
• Certified Soil Scientist, Professional Wetland Scientist, Certified Wildlife Biologist, or related certifications.
• Experience with conducting ecological habitat assessments or rare species surveys is a plus.
• Experience with public speaking at public hearings, workshops, and seminars.
• Ability to handle flexible workload, diverse project files, and working well with multiple staff members.
• Some travel will be required to client meetings and project sites (both in state and out of state in the northeast).
• Experience permitting energy / utility or transportation related projects required
• Familiarity with Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire environmental permitting regulations.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Organizational/time management skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license
