Job Description
The State of Alaska is seeking an Environmental Program Technician based in Fairbanks, AK, for Alaska residents only. The role involves monitoring PM2.5 curtailment, documenting compliance issues, processing technical documents, and engaging with the public on air quality matters. About the position
This position is open to Alaska Residents only and is based in Fairbanks. The Environmental Program Technician will work in a friendly environment, engaging in a variety of tasks and repetitive projects that support a team-oriented atmosphere. Key responsibilities include conducting surveillance of homes during PM2.5 curtailment episodes, documenting non-compliance with wood stove use restrictions, and processing documentation such as photographs and preparing Advisory and Compliance letters to citizens. The technician will also assist with formal enforcement activities, conduct data entry, and scan routine technical documents submitted by industry. Additionally, the role involves intake of waiver applications, document filing, and reviewing technical reports from small facilities. Daily interactions with the public and local stakeholders are expected, requiring a professional demeanor. Occasional fieldwork will involve operating basic hand tools, and a critical function of the job is to respond to and investigate public air quality complaints. The incumbent will play a vital role in protecting the health of Alaskans and the environment by assisting with the enforcement of regulations related to the use of solid fuel devices during poor air quality conditions in Fairbanks and North Pole. This includes handling technical documentation, ensuring completeness of information submitted, and entering data into an electronic database. The position is performance-oriented, focusing on delivering quality work on a known schedule, with some flexibility in work hours possible. The daily tasks are technical and science-based, requiring strong decision-making and project/time management skills.
Responsibilities
• Conduct surveillance of homes during PM2.5 curtailment episodes and document non-compliance with wood stove use restrictions.

• Process documentation such as pictures and prepare Advisory and Compliance letters to citizens.

• Assist with formal enforcement activities related to air quality regulations.

• Conduct data entry and scanning of routine technical documents submitted by industry.

Requirements
• One year of advanced clerical experience in a resource management or environmental oversight organization.

• Experience in customer service, particularly in responding to and investigating public complaints.

• High attention to detail and thoroughness in work performance.

• Ability to multi-task and manage various work items, especially during peak seasons.

• Proficient computer skills, including the use of software applications and databases.
Nice-to-haves
• Post-secondary education in Environmental or Natural Resource studies, physical, biological or natural science, planning, or engineering.
