About the position
Western Technologies, a proud affiliate of the nationwide network of the RMA Companies, is seeking highly motivated environmental professionals for full-time positions as Environmental Scientist I and II and Environmental Project Manager in our Flagstaff and Phoenix, Arizona locations. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a positive work environment, enjoy collaboration with peers, clients, and regulators, and flourish in self-directed roles. As part of our dedicated team, you will support the needs of private-sector and government clientele to address and remedy environmental impacts in both the natural world and the built environment. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work on various projects across Arizona, with potential involvement in project teams located in the Pacific Northwest, California, the Greater Southwestern United States, and the East Coast. Your participation will involve a blend of project-specific travel and remote interactions aimed at resolving the challenges and needs of our clients to improve the environment. Typical work practices will include fieldwork and technical report writing, while project management positions will encompass growth-oriented and business development tasks such as client communication, project approach and budget development, team participant selection (including subcontractors), and providing guidance and direction to peers while mentoring staff. You will contribute to a variety of tasks including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), asbestos inspections, lead paint surveys, NEPA level environmental reviews, personnel and ambient air monitoring, soil vapor and groundwater sampling, hydrogeological data collection, facility audits, and management of subcontractors and vendors. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting sustainable practices.
Responsibilities
• Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and other due diligence-related activities.
,
• Perform asbestos inspections and develop operations and maintenance plans, abatement design, and oversight.
,
• Conduct lead paint surveys to identify hazards and recommend mitigation strategies.
,
• Execute NEPA level environmental reviews and assessments for proposed projects.
,
• Monitor personnel and ambient air quality to address exposure hazards.
,
• Sample soil vapor, soil, and groundwater to evaluate environmental impacts.
,
• Collect hydrogeological data for groundwater evaluation.
,
• Conduct facility audits for regulatory compliance regarding hazardous waste management and other environmental programs.
,
• Manage and oversee subcontractors, sub-consultants, vendors, and laboratories.
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field of study.

• OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
,
• State and Federal licenses and certifications for asbestos and lead-based paint.
,
• Ability to self-direct work with minimal supervision.
,
• Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions while wearing protective clothing.
,
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
,
• Experience with regulatory programs such as SPCC and SWPPP under the Clean Water Act, NEPA reviews, USTs under RCRA, and hazardous waste management.
