Insignia Environmental is seeking an Environmental Planner Intern for an 8 to 10 week full-time hybrid role in Menlo Park, CA. The intern will gain hands-on experience in environmental consulting, conducting research, performing impact analyses, and preparing permit assessments. Candidates should have a relevant degree, prior internship experience, and strong communication skills. The position requires in-office attendance on scheduled days, indicating it is not fully remote.

Position Details

Reporting to a designated staff member, the Environmental Planner Intern will work for a duration of 8 to 10 weeks across all levels of the organization to gain hands-on experience in an environmental consulting company. This individual should be a creative, collaborative, organized, and results-driven team member. Candidates must be team players who are proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Candidates who are recent graduates and/or are anticipated to graduate in May 2025 with university degrees in environmental science, resource management, city and regional planning, or a similar field are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time hybrid role that is based out of Insignia’s Menlo Park or Encinitas office locations in California.

Job Description
• Conduct research
• Perform impacts analyses
• Prepare permit assessments and California Environmental Quality Act/National Environmental Policy Act (CEQA/NEPA) reports
• Manage permitting efforts
• Coordinate with staff
• Assist project managers with task management and manage small- to medium-sized projects

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, environmental policy, or similar from an accredited 4-year college
• Minimum of 1 year of prior internship or professional work experience is strongly preferred
• Proactive, detail-oriented self-starter who can work independently to complete tasks on time
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Excellent writing and technical editing skills, with advanced experience in Microsoft Office
• Rigorously detail-oriented and committed to accuracy
• Experience assessing environmental impacts under CEQA/NEPA and/or preparing permit applications is highly preferred

Other
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Willingness and ability to travel when needed
• Ability to commute and regularly report to the offices on scheduled in-office days (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

Benefits And Compensation
• Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The hourly rate range for this position is $25.00 to $31.00.
