Job Description

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is hiring an Environmental Planner 1 for the Department of Transportation in New London, CT. The role involves reviewing permits for maintenance projects, providing regulatory guidance, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Candidates may have part-time telework options, but must reside in Pennsylvania. The position requires relevant experience or education in environmental planning and offers a full-time schedule from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Friday.
Position: Environmental Planner 1
THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is actively seeking an Environmental Planner 1 to serve as the primary permit reviewer for maintenance-related projects, including tasks such as replacing culverts and pipes by department forces. This role provides regulatory and environmental guidance to District Office and County Staff, ensuring compliance across areas like emergency operations, underground storage tank programs, hazardous materials management, and the Statewide Environmental Management Program (SEMP).

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will review permitting documents, provide recommendations to the unit supervisor, and identify corrections or repairs based on field inspections. You will assist in developing permits, environmental plans, and policies aligned with state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities include selecting research methodologies for creating, evaluating, and implementing environmental permits, plans, and policies. Your work will be regularly reviewed by your supervisor for progress and effectiveness.

Work Schedule and Additional Information
• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
• Telework: Part-time telework may be available, requiring a secure high-speed internet connection and an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If telework is not possible, reporting to the Oil City headquarters is an option.
• Salary: Starting salary may be non-negotiable in some cases.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
• Two years of professional experience in environmental planning at local, regional, or state levels, or
• A Bachelor's degree in planning or environmental planning plus one year of relevant experience, or
• A Master's degree in environmental planning, or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Applicants near graduation (within 3 months) will be considered to meet educational requirements.
