Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM):
Our mission is to implement federal and state regulations to protect human health and the environment while allowing the environmentally sound operations of industrial, agricultural, commercial, and governmental activities vital to a prosperous economy. We issue air, water, and solid and hazardous waste permits that restrict discharges to environmentally safe levels. Staff members inspect and monitor regulated entities; provide compliance and technical assistance; monitor and assess air, land, and water quality; use enforcement actions as necessary to ensure compliance; and respond to incidents involving spills to soil or waters of the state.

Role Overview:

Are you passionate about protecting air quality and ensuring environmental compliance? We’re seeking a detail-driven and mission-focused professional to join our regulatory enforcement team as an enforcement case manager in the Office of Air Quality. In this role, you will investigate referred air quality violations, manage enforcement actions, and collaborate with legal, technical, and community stakeholders to uphold environmental standards. You’ll be at the forefront of safeguarding public health and the environment by ensuring that industries and facilities operate within the bounds of federal and state air regulations. This position demands a sharp analytical mind, strong communication skills, and a commitment to justice and transparency.

Key skills we are looking for include:

• Regulatory Knowledge & Compliance Analysis: Basic understanding of Clean Air Act provisions, permitting requirements, and Indiana environmental rules. Ability to read through complex environmental regulations and apply them to real-world cases.

• Case Management & Investigative Skills: Job will require managing enforcement cases from initiation to resolution, including evidence gathering, documentation, and coordination with legal teams.

• Stakeholder Communication & Negotiation: Strong written and verbal communication skills to engage with regulated entities, legal counsel, and representatives of the regulated community are expected along with the ability to negotiate settlements and present findings clearly and persuasively.
