Job Description
The City of Kansas City, MO is seeking an Environmental Justice Coordinator for a full-time role in Springfield, MO. The position involves reporting on lead testing, facilitating community discussions, developing educational outreach on lead contamination, and collaborating with community organizations. A Bachelor's degree in an environmental field is required. The salary ranges from $24.77 to $37.16 per hour, with work hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Full-time position available with the Neighborhoods & Community Services Department, Office of Environmental Quality Division, located at 414 E 12th St.

Responsibilities
• Reports lead testing and findings monthly to the Ivanhoe Housing and Economic Development Committee (HEDC).
• Facilitate discussions with HEDC about the reuse of mitigated properties such that planning aims to create communities where people can access key amenities such as natural spaces, increased food access, and safe places for families to recreate by travelling short distances.
• Initiate lead-contaminated soil awareness education and outreach to encourage understanding and knowledge of the risks associated with lead exposure.
• Develop engagement tools consistent with the community's desired methods of communication and learning such as brochures, tabling events, attending INC meetings, and presentations.
• Assist in INC's development of their 100-point plan by engaging the community to develop a comprehensive Environmental Justice portion of the plan to address the inequitable burdens and health risks due to climate change and climate impacts.
• Record and organize work to develop protocols, plans, and templates to facilitate the replication of this program in other underserved communities impacted by lead-contaminated soil.
• Collaborate with CBOs and professional partners to maximize impact and utilize existing successful programs.
• Assists in the development and coordination of community events that promote and build program engagement.
• Develops and manages volunteer relationships to support department events and customer service resources.
• Communicates with and develops customer relationships with businesses and community members.
• Develops relationships with relevant community groups and creates tactical partnerships. Connects resources to community needs through partner organizations by building lasting and reciprocal relationships.
• Tracks program participation and financial data and provides grant reports as needed.
Qualifications
REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in an environmentally related field, such as environmental science and related physical and life sciences, environmental engineering and related engineering specializations, environmental law and related legal specializations or environmental studies and related management, environmental planning and related urban planning specializations, environmental education, environmental policy, sustainability, and public administration specializations; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.
Must possess a valid state-issued drivers license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
