The County of Los Angeles is hiring an Environmental Health Training Coordinator to develop and coordinate training programs for Environmental Health staff and regulated industries. Responsibilities include assessing training needs, directing training staff, organizing conferences, managing recruitment, and collaborating with educational institutions. DEFINITION: Develops, implements and coordinates programs of training, recruitment and selection for the staff of the Environmental Health organization; plans and coordinates programs to provide specialized training to industries regulated by the Environmental Health Program.CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS: The one position allocable to this class works under the administrative and technical direction of the director of special operations. Functions performed include providing administrative and technical direction to subordinates in conducting a continual program of training for the professional and para-professional environmental health staff; maintaining a continuous program of recruiting and selection of Environmental Health Specialists, and counseling with Environmental Health Specialists I on obtaining required State registration. This position develops and coordinates specialized training in environmental health as required by the State or environmental health program management.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Determines training needs through investigation, consultation, and evaluation of requests; develops and recommends programs to management designed to meet these needs.Directs a staff in the conduct of training programs to orient employees, provide technical and specialized skills in environmental management, and develop management or supervisory capability.Provides guidance and instruction to subordinate staff in training and personnel administration and reviews and evaluates subordinates' work.Organizes or coordinates and leads conferences, makes outside speaking engagements and serves on professional committees.Coordinates management development and supervisory training with other organizations within the Department of Health Services.Arranges for staff specialists or outside experts to serve as instructors and lecturers and advises and assists departmental personnel serving as instructors in formulating teaching plans, course work and teaching techniques.Observes and evaluates the effectiveness of staff serving as instructors and analyzes training results and develops methods to increase effectiveness.Prepares budget request for training activities, equipment, supplies, and other training expenses; prepares or secures necessary training materials and provides classroom space.Administers an ongoing program of recruitment, examination and selection for professional and para-professional personnel.Establishes contacts with local colleges and universities to orient and encourage graduates to enter a career in environmental health and provides counseling regarding careers in environmental health; coordinates the Environmental Health Internship Program with the local colleges and universities seeking placement of their interns.Advises Environmental Health Specialists I on meeting Environmental Health Specialist II registration requirements.

EXAMINATION CONTENT: This examination will consist of an evaluation of certification and experience based upon application information, desirable qualifications and supplemental questionnaire at the time of filing weighted 100%.Applicants must meet the requirements described above at the time of filing and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be added to the Eligible Register. Passing this examination and being added to the Eligible Register does not guarantee an offer of employment. ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
